Neyyapam / Unniyappam


Dark and small round balls.. the appearance attracts me lot.
The taste is awesome.. No words..
Lord Krishna's 1 of favourite sweets!!!!
What more qualification does this unniyappam need??
Unni - meaning small in size in the language Malayalam.. Either the size of the ball
demand such name.
I believe Lord Krishna is called as Unni - small boy.. He loves this sweet and hence called Unniyappam.
Yes this sweet brings Lord Krishna to my mind forst rather than its beautiful taste!!!!





Ingredients Required:

Raw Rice - 1 cup
Jaggery - 1 cup
Elachi Powder - 1/2 tsp
Ripe Bananas - 2

Process:

Soak the rice for half day.
Drain the water.
Along with the rice, add powdered jaggery and smashed bananas and grind well in a mortar.
Do not add water as the moisture of the rice and jaggery itself is enough.
Grind to a coarse consisteny if you like the crunchy taste.
Else for smooth taste lovers give a nice grind.
I belong to the 2nd category.



Take the 'paniyaram' pan.
Grease well with a tsp of ghee/oil in all the hole slots.
Pour in the batter.
Once the batter gets cooked down, upside toss them so the top side also gets cooked well.
Again, some love these in a burnt cooking way.
People like me love them if they are just cooked to the correct consistency.
